Who We Are

Professional Guardians Who Are Part of the Community

Windsor & Eton Guardians was established by experienced educators and child welfare professionals who live and work in the shadow of Eton College itself. Our team is British and Chinese, bringing together deep knowledge of the British boarding school system and a real understanding of Chinese family values, expectations, and culture. Being based in Windsor and Eton means we know the school, the town, and the community well.

We take on a small and carefully managed number of students so that every student in our care receives attentive, personal support throughout the year.

"We treat every student as we would treat our own: with warmth, high expectations, and absolute reliability."

Whether it is navigating an early-morning school trip, a mid-term conversation with a housemaster, or simply ensuring a homesick student has a familiar face to turn to, we are always available and always close at hand.

What We Offer

Complete Guardianship, Every Step of the Way

From the first day of term to the last exeat of the year, we give our full care and commitment to every aspect of your child's welfare and school life — doing everything we can to support them, wherever you are in the world.

Exeat & Holiday Accommodation

A warm, welcoming family home in the Windsor and Eton area, close to the school. Your child has their own private room, home-cooked meals, and familiar language and culture. Homestay accommodation is available at an agreed nightly rate, charged separately from the annual guardianship fee.

Academic Monitoring & School Liaison

We attend parents' evenings and school meetings in your place, maintain a close relationship with your child's housemaster, and keep you informed with regular written reports. Any academic or welfare concern is flagged to you immediately. Where additional support is needed, we can also arrange subject-specific tuition with vetted, experienced tutors, coordinated around school life and reported back to you.

Cultural & Linguistic Bridge

Our team speaks Mandarin and Cantonese between them. We provide a cultural bridge: translating school communications, helping your child navigate British social norms, and ensuring parents are never lost in translation on important school matters.

Travel & Logistics Coordination

Airport transfers, train bookings, and term-date transport managed from start to finish. We meet students at the airport, see them safely back to school, and coordinate all holiday travel with parents directly.

Pastoral & Wellbeing Support

Homesickness, peer relationships, exam pressure: our doctoral-level welfare expertise means we identify and support emotional difficulties early. We provide a safe, trusted adult relationship that is separate from school, giving students somewhere to turn that is wholly on their side.

Parent Communication & Reporting

Regular structured reports and always-available contact by phone, email, WhatsApp, or video call. We are responsive and keep parents informed through whatever channel suits them best.

Simple, Transparent Pricing

We charge a single flat annual service fee with no complicated packages and no hidden extras. All additional costs beyond the core guardianship service (such as homestay accommodation, subject tuition, or travel) are discussed and arranged individually, so you only ever pay for what your child actually needs. What Families Say

"Our son started his first year at Eton struggling with anxiety around Trials, which we could see even from Shanghai but found hard to help with from so far away. We told Dr. Alex, and what followed was not a quick fix. He stayed close to our son over several weeks, had regular conversations with him, and worked with the housemaster to make sure the right support was in place within the house as well. Our son came through it on his own terms, and I believe Dr. Alex's patience and consistency made that possible. What gives me confidence year on year is his sense of dedication and responsibility. He is not someone who passes things on and forgets about them. He follows through, he finds a way, and whatever comes up, we know it will be dealt with properly."

"Before Windsor and Eton Guardians, we used a larger agency. The homestay families were perfectly fine but there was nothing personal about the arrangement, and our son had to travel quite a distance for Short Leaves, which he found tiring on top of everything else. Alex placed our son with Caroline, a retired lawyer who studied PPE at Oxford and lives close to the school in Windsor. She has treated him like a grandson from the very first weekend. By Long Leave he was talking about wanting to read PPE at Oxford himself, which we had never heard from him before. On the other side of things, Kiki has been wonderful throughout. She has lived in England for many years and understands both worlds well. She notices the small things that make a real difference, like organising a birthday cake and a little gift when our son turned fifteen during a Short Leave weekend. He still mentions it."

Understanding Guardianship

What is Educational Guardianship?

In the United Kingdom, an educational guardian is a responsible adult formally appointed by a student's parents to act on their behalf while their child studies at a British boarding school. Under Eton College's own admissions guidelines, and as required by UK child safeguarding legislation, every international student under the age of 18 must have a named, UK-based guardian before they can take up their place at the school.

A guardian's responsibilities are wide-ranging: attending parents' evenings and school meetings in the parents' place, providing a safe and welcoming home during exeats and half-term holidays, responding promptly to any medical or welfare emergency, maintaining a close working relationship with the student's housemaster, and serving as the reliable first point of contact between school and family throughout the year.

The quality of guardianship matters enormously. A guardian who lives close to the school, speaks the family's language, and genuinely understands both British boarding school culture and the values of the student's home country makes a profound difference to a young person's happiness, academic progress, and sense of belonging.

Windsor & Eton Guardians was established specifically to serve families at Eton College. We are based five minutes from the school, and combine doctoral-level educational expertise with Mandarin and Cantonese fluency — so that both you and your child feel truly supported, every day of the year.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need a guardian at Eton College? +

Yes. Eton College requires all international students under the age of 18 to have a named, UK-based educational guardian before they can take up their place at the school. The guardian acts as the parent's representative in the United Kingdom for all welfare, pastoral, and practical matters.

What does an educational guardian actually do? +

An educational guardian attends parents' evenings and school meetings on your behalf, provides your child with a safe and welcoming home during Short Leaves and Long Leave, liaises closely with your child's housemaster, responds to any welfare or medical emergency, arranges airport transfers and term-time travel, and keeps you informed throughout the year with regular reports and prompt communication whenever it is needed.

Why choose a guardian based in Windsor and Eton? +

Being five minutes from Eton College means we can respond immediately to any situation, day or night. We know the school community personally, understand its culture and expectations, and can be at the school gate within minutes when needed. A guardian based far from the school simply cannot offer the same level of presence.

Do you speak Mandarin and Cantonese? +

Yes. Our team speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese. Parents and students are welcome to communicate in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese — whichever feels most natural. We can also conduct our initial video call in whichever language you prefer.

Where does my child stay during Short Leaves and Long Leave? +

We arrange homestay accommodation in carefully selected households in the Windsor and Eton area, including our own home. Your child will have a private room, home-cooked meals, and a warm family environment close to the school. Homestay is available at an agreed nightly rate, charged separately from the annual guardianship fee.

How many students do you take on? +

We deliberately keep our numbers small so that every student receives truly attentive, personal care. We are not an agency managing large numbers of boys at arms length — we are a family team who will know your child by name, understand his individual character, and be present throughout the year.

How much does guardianship at Eton cost? +

We charge a single flat annual guardianship fee with no complicated packages. Additional services — such as homestay accommodation during Short Leaves and Long Leave, airport transfers, or subject tuition — are arranged individually and charged separately, so you only pay for what your child actually needs. Please contact us and we will walk you through everything clearly.
